Elden Ring, like other Soulslike games, features a variety of boss fights for two players, some of which are more enjoyable than others. Whether or not these encounters are well-designed or challenging enough is a topic of regular debate among players. Some of Elden Ring's two-player boss battles are truly spectacular, while others fall far short of expectations.
When two bosses appear at once, the players must work together to defeat them. These types of boss fights may be found in every game that takes inspiration from the Souls series, not just Elden Ring. Dark Souls' Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough are arguably the most well-known boss combo in the whole FromSoftware canon. In contrast, Dark Souls 3 features a battle between the Younger Prince Lothric and the Elder Prince Lorian, as well as a few other duo bosses in the downloadable content. Some games that are similar to Souls have three or more bosses that the player must confront all at once.
Bosses that appear in pairs are common in Elden Ring, and they're just one of many obstacles that players will face in the Lands Between. However, not all the duo bosses are created equal in terms of toughness and boss design. Some bosses are simple to defeat yet stand out because of their unique fighting style or design, while others, such as dual bosses, are difficult to defeat but share the game's aesthetic.
#6 Elden Ring's Tree Sentinel Duo
A Tree Sentinel, one of the game's early field monsters, waits beyond the First Step Site of Grace in Elden Ring. A pair of Tree Sentinels awaits players later on if they have trouble with the lone one earlier on. Tree Sentinels' two-boss fights take place on the southern edge of the Altus Plateau, accessible via the Altus Highway Road. The first brandishes a massive shield and halberd, while the second brandishes a torch. Players can run right by the Tree Sentinel pair if they don't want to battle them, and if they do, they can take them on one at a time. However, the combination of their dazzling gold armor and their wide-ranging assaults makes these bosses quite dangerous to face. And for a low-level character, it's terrifying to be pursued by these two bosses on their golden mounts.
#5 Elden Ring's Valiant Gargoyle Duo
The Elden Ring's Siofra Aqueduct is home to the Valiant Gargoyle and his partner, the Valiant Gargoyle (Twinblade). Design-wise, these two are consistent with other Elden Ring gargoyles. However, the gargoyles in this battle have a poison breath attack that can be devastating to unwary players. While the bosses may look invincible at first, you can defeat them. To begin, players only face one gargoyle at the start of the fight; the second one doesn't show up until the second half of the battle. In order to get D's Brother into the fight, players must offer him the Twinned Set, which can be located immediately outside the boss area. Players can kill the gargoyles by positioning themselves along the rock face to the right of the screen.
#4 Elden Ring's Nox Duo
Elden Ring's Lusat Glintstone Staff may be obtained by defeating the Nox Swordstress and Nox Priest pair boss. To free the two, players must first ignite the brazier in the northwestern portion of Selia, Town of Sorcery. Even for high-leveled players, the Swordstress and the Priest are not very challenging, but they have tremendous range. Design-wise, this combo of bosses is up there with the best of them. Even if you haven't made it to Nokron, the underground city where the Nox are a common foe, their design can have an effect on you. The parallels between the Nox duo and the Shadow of Yharnam trio make this boss appealing to Bloodborne fans.
#3 Elden Ring's Crucible Knight Duo
Although players often develop Elden Ring Crucible Knight builds in preparation for a fight against a single Crucible Knight, facing up against two of them is a tense and difficult encounter. Players can engage in combat with the Crucible Knight duo in Auriza's Hero's Grave. Ordovis, the Crucible Knight, is armed with a greatsword, shield, and the ability to materialize wings and fly at key moments in the battle. The second knight of the crucible carries the Siluria's Tree Great Spear. It's possible that this is one of the hardest battles in the game, but players can always call in reinforcements. However challenging they may be, crucible knights are also among the most visually impressive foes you'll face. As a result of their victory, players receive the Crucible Axe Set, the game's second set of Crucible armor and a major source of backstory, notably in the case of Ordovis, who served Godfrey.
#2 Elden Ring's Godskin Duo
It's likely that by the time the players approach the Godskin Duo in Elden Ring in the Crumbling Farum Azula, they've already had run-ins with the Godskin Apostle and the Godskin Noble. However, instead of facing one boss at a time, players now battle all of them at once. These bosses fight similarly to earlier ones, so that's good news. It's unfortunate that the Godskin Duo have the same health bar, therefore they can only be defeated by depleting both of their bars simultaneously. If the player is able to kill one or both of them before their health meter is drained, the enemies will keep respawning. The Godskin Duo, unlike the game's previous duo bosses, cannot be avoided if players want to continue.
#1 Elden Ring's Fell Twins Duo
The Fell Twins' fight is unlike any other in the game, making them the best tandem bosses. In order to meet this pair, players must first vanquish Morgott, the tragic hero of Elden Ring, and then make their way to the Divine Tower of East Altus. When facing off against the Fell Twins, the player does not do so in a lit chamber or arena, but rather in complete darkness. As soon as the player triggers their battle, the screen will go black and remain black until the Fell Twins have finished appearing. This pitch blackness makes it hard for players to gauge their distance from the Twins. Some players may find this battle familiar if they have already taken down the Four Kings in Dark Souls. Whether or not the abrupt blackout seems like home to the player, this is one of the toughest and best-designed duo boss fights in Elden Ring.
