The squad chemistry system in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team is being overhauled. Squad chemistry has always been an important part of the FUT system. Players link or do not link to other players based on their nationality and team affiliation. There are also unique items, such as Icons, that can be linked to anyone in your squad. EA Sports is phasing out traditional squad links and formations, with players now able to link to anyone in their squad if they apply without being a neighboring link.

Simplified Links
Players can now link into your starting XI regardless of where they are on the field. Take, for example, Liverpool's dynamic fullback duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. Having both players on your team will improve their chemistry because of their team, league, and nationality. In the preceding example, having both TAA and Robertson frees up one chemistry point by having two required Liverpool players. They also work toward a Premier League chemistry point, a Scotland point, and an England point.
Chemistry Indicators
Chemistry is no longer measured on a scale of 0 to 10. Instead, the scale runs from 0 to 3. Chemistry continues to have an impact on a player's boosted in-game stats, but there are new ways to obtain those boosts and maximize links.
Positioning
Position Modifiers, like chemistry, are being revamped. With a universal consumable, players can now move to up to three secondary positions. For example, Manchester City's Joao Cancelo plays as a fullback on both the left and right flank. A position modifier can be used to move a player to a secondary position.
Attributes
This is possibly the most significant change in the chemistry system. Players are no longer harmed by poor or non-existent chemistry. As their base stats are defined, players will now operate with zero links or out of position. If players want to play Kylian Mbappe out of position, they don't have to worry about him losing significant statistics across the board. Having chemistry only improves a player's in-game statistics.
Icons and FUT Heroes
